Aquamarine Elastic

Need an interpreter!!! What is my cat saying?

Please help me understand what my cat is trying to say.

She has that kind of favorite toy – hair elastic like this: http://www.premiumgradehair.com/wp-content/uploads/tassi-aquamarine.bmp

I notice that now, when she is not a baby anymore, she is carrying that elastic in her mouth and while walking around is making that strange mi aws . It sounds like she is in heat (kind of).

In the beginning I thought she wants me to play with her because she was putting the elastic in front of me so I start playing and she was responding.

Now when we have second cat and she has a play mate, she continues, from time to time to walk around the rooms with this elastic in her mouth.
It looks like she is carrying kittens in and is looking for a secluded area to put it down. She don’t bring it to me anymore. And all that mi aw, mi aw…. I feel so sad for her

I also see that she is doing this mi aw as soon as my children go to sleep. I have to shush her every night.

So, what is she trying to say? Does she want to play? Do she for some reason has that maternal instinct and thinks that the elastic is a kitten? Why she does that only at night when we are sleeping?
It’s really frustrating to not know what she trying to say and not being able to help.

Little facts: she is 9 months old now and is spayed after being in heat once. Never been pregnant.
Our new kitten is only 3 months old and is with us for a month now.

Yes, she is not going outside, she has scratchier and even a “tree”.
If she wants to play, she is just coming to me and we do play with her. It’s not like she is all forgotten and she had that behavior before the new kitten’s arrival. Actually this was one of the reasons we take the second cat, so they can play together.

I’ve never heard of “presents” … What a bad person I am for rejecting her gift (if it was intended as one). But this is her toy and she loved to play with it so much so …

I take it your cat is an indoor cat ? I think she was bringing you the hair elastic as a present, just like outdoor cats bring mice home for the people they love.She possibly thinks you rejected her present if you played with it with her. The best thing to do is accept it and thank her. She may be asking for more attention, with the new kitten coming along, so make sure she gets some one to one time with you, try to get her to play with catnip toys. She also needs a scratching post if she hasn’t already got one, both your kittens do really, to exercise their muscles and grow strong and healthy.
She will probably soon settle down at night if she has plenty to do through the day.

No you are not a bad person, in fact you sound like a very good person ! You should see the presents our cats bring lol We live in the UK in a cat friendly place so our cats go out, we get mice (dead or alive) as our presents and once we’ve said thanks, our cats go happily off,then we either set them free or dispose of them, with gritted teeth lol Cats do love bringing presents to loved ones !
I think your cat will settle down, it does take time for them to adjust to another kitten coming along.I think she is saying ‘Don’t forget I was here first’ But reading your addition, you certainly haven’t done that.They are 2 lucky cats to have such a good home.
