how to fix Grandfather clock The pendulum starts, then stops. Tried all info on instructions. What gives?
It is balanced perfectly. It was working fine, then my aunt had to leave the assisted living The weights could not be moved, sot now when we tried to get it going again, the pendulum will start up , then stop Ttried all methods on instructions and other means. Have patience too !! What can I do now before we have to send for the expensive repair man She is in hospice now It is a Ridgeway brand from the 60’s.
A pendulum clock movement MUST be level. If it isn’t you will not hear an evenly spaced tic/toc, rather the tic will be faster than the toc, or vice versa. The tic and toc should be timed to be evenly spaced. I know this sounds confusing, but once you hear a properly balanced and timed clock, it all makes sense.
In other words, make sure your pendulum is traveling the same distance from center on each cycle. This is accomplished by the clock being level.
